Hit the Bar Vs Devote Design Wed
This weeks opponents, Devote Design Wed had fought out a 9-9 draw with Hit The Bar earlier in the season, and the Bookies were offering a reasonable 50-1 on a repeat of this unlikely score. The departure of Ricky Organ for the forseeable future (bar guest appearances) had left many wondering whether HTB would be able to field a full team in weeks to come. Imagine the surprise of onlookers then, when an incredible 8 players turned up to play! Regulars, Squirrel, Dancing, G-Man, Turkish and the 'Ez's were joined by Pete (1 cap) and Nez's mate Matt (debut). The game got underway with the regulars on the pitch and a lead was quickly established. A full round of substitutions before half-time resulted in some disjointed play but a 6-4 lead for HTB nonetheless. Throughout the second half, HTB remained just about in control and kept their 2-goal cushion more or less in tact. Unfortunately though, the SPAZ-ATTACK SPANNER award-winner that was Dancing, gifted DDW two goals in the space of two minutes by losing possession right in front of goal on both occasions. With the score at 9 apiece, and the Bookies sweating at the thought of a big payout, HTB saved their skins by netting a superb injury time winner. That of course was a lie, Devote Design Wed. scored again and went home the 10-9 victors. Mid-table mediocrity beckons once again for HTB, will they EVER be promoted?
Squirrel - A few too many soft goals went in tonight and this won't be one he'll want to remember. Has had worse nights but has also played a whole lot better - 5
Wes - A subdued performance and didn't seem to benefit from the continual substitutions. Unusually scored only 1 and will be looking to get back to old ways next week - 5
Dancing - Scored the opener and had a reasonable first half. Capitulated in the second, gifting goals to the opposition and subsequently prompting bribery accusations. Had the chance to make amends at the other end but failed - 4
G-Man - A patchy performance with some good but short bursts of action. Scored a couple but seemed to tire quite early, could have perhaps taken better advantage of the number of subs available - 5
Nez - Looked lively from the off but missed a couple of early chances. This may have knocked his confidence as he only netted one. Some good tackling at times but the all-round game wasn't there tonight - 5
Turkish - Also quite a relatively quiet night tonight. Some good play at times and positioning was good but was without the finishing touch all night - 5
Pete - Slotting in at centre back he gave the team some shape. Good blocking tackles and a couple of goals to boot, this was the best all-round effort on display tonight, although the pickings were slim. SURERANDOMALITY STARMAN - 6
Matt - The new lad started promisingly and got a couple of goals to his name. Concentration wavered in the second and his game suffered as a result. Not a bad effort though by any means - 5
